GAD
Steve & Marilyn Sorensen, tribe leaders
Arise, Shine Gad Come along side of and Dwell with
the One who is Faithful and True, the Holy God of Zion!
Marilyn and I have been wonderfully blessed to be the Leaders of
the Tribe of Gad. To serve with such a great group of leaders is
a gift from God and we appreciate every minute of this experience.
The Bible tells of how fortunate Gad was to have God enlarge them.
The place where we dwell
is too strait for us.
Such an energetic, aggressive tribe could not remain static, so
their inheritance was extended beyond its original limits until
it covered the entire land of Gilead. We desire the same for todays
Tribe of Gad at Cornerstone. To forever be expanding and conquering
enemies of the Lord.
I met Marilyn in Anchorage, Alaska, almost 40 years ago. She was
a strong Baptist girl and I was a nothing. She was saved and I was
lost. Her father (not taking a strong liking to me) said that I
couldnt date his daughter unless I went to church. I thought
that one hour on Sunday morning was a good enough trade for the
rest of the week so I started attending. I wasnt an easy catch
for the Lord but finally I accepted Him as Lord and Savior in an
evening service at that little Baptist church. God was very, very
good!! I would have let me go long before He did!!
Not long afterwards, Marilyn and I were married and headed off
to see the world at Uncle Sams expense (USAF). Wherever we
went, God used us in special ways. Marilyn had lots of influence
over the women of different communities and I seemed to always be
used in a teaching/preaching capacity. While we were in Biloxi,
Mississippi, Marilyn and I were baptized in the Holy Spirit. What
a difference in our lives. After that experience, Marilyn and I
worshipped the Lord in a whole new way. Our hearts were filled to
overflowing with the joy of the Lord. We were excited beyond belief!
Through a series of unexplainable events, we were transferred to
San Antonio in 1982. Soon after, we found Cornerstone and have been
here ever since. While staying very much involved in the church,
Marilyn recently received her PhD in Educational Administration.
I joined the Church Staff in 1986 and have been serving in a variety
of positions. Today we serve as the Administrative Director of the
Government of Twelve and the leaders of the Tribe of GAD!!
Tribe of Gad means: Good Fortune A Troup
or A Seer. Gad is the seventh son of Jacob, first born
of Zilpah, Leahs maid, and full brother of Asher. He
shall overcome at last. (1 Chronicles 5:18-22)
